Hello and welcome everyone!

At the beginning of each new year, I like to take some time to reflect on the previous year’s work. I was delighted to photograph newborns, babies, families, headshots, and expecting mothers of  Colorado Springs in 2018. I thought it would be fun to shine a light on my favorite images of 2018 and maternity portraits were a great starting point for me. It got me thinking about how I was first inspired to become a photographer, so today I would like to share a bit of my story with you; when I was pregnant with my first daughter who is now 11 years old, I made an appointment at a local 3d/4d ultrasound clinic where they tell you the gender of your baby. When I walked into the office, the first thing I noticed was a variety of fine art portraits hanging on the wall. These were portraits of pregnant women photographed in such a beautiful and artistic way. I was a blossoming photographer at that time and at that moment I decided to focus my work on expecting mothers. I was inspired to create beautiful images of pregnant women and hoped that one day, they would be displayed in a similar setting. I was living on Oahu when I first started my career as a photographer and it seems that each and every maternity session was a stepping stone to where I am today as a maternity photographer.

Fast forward to 2012 when I moved to Colorado Springs, I knew it would not be easy to start over again and build my business from the ground up. For months, I went back and forth on creating a niche as maternity, birth and newborn photographer. Once I made a  decision to do just that, I started meeting new customers and building my business from the ground up. I started taking a more lifestyle approach with my work. I was able to establish a name for myself in Colorado Springs by 2014/2015. By 2016 I landed a small photography studio inside of a local 3d/4d ultrasound clinic (First Glimpse Ultrasound)  and was able to display my own work on the walls of the office! My dream of displaying my work and sharing the beauty of pregnancy was actually coming true! The studio at First Glimpse was a great stepping stone in my career and it helped me build my confidence as a photographer and gave me better direction as to where I wanted to go. In 2017 a good photographer friend of mine, Tamera, who had actually introduced me to the owner of First Glimpse ultrasound drove me to the Micheal Garmen building where I have my present studio. On this lucky day, we saw a sign posted in the hall of the building that stated “studio for rent”. I knew it was time to move into a larger, more fitting studio so I called right away. I made an appointment to view the studio that week and as it turns out, it would be love at first sight! Although the studio at First Glimpse was really nice, I made the move to Old Colorado City right away.

We just started 2019 and my main focus is still maternity, newborn and baby photography. I am still located in Old Colorado City and absolutely love the studio. I am very grateful for my journey as a photographer and small business owner thus far.  My work is still displayed at First Glimpse Ultrasound in Colorado Springs by the way, check it out here

I hope you all enjoyed hearing a bit of my story! I plan to share more about my journey in future posts, so stay tuned.
